THE FOUNDATION THEN AND NOW

The history of the Cambridge Community Foundation has always been about the future.

The Foundation was one of the first community foundations in the nation. Created in 1916 with a visionary scholarship fund, our mission since day one has been to make a difference in the lives of Cambridge residents, for generations to come.

Today, we are a grantmaker, philanthropic partner, civic leader, and changemaker. As the foundation of and for all of Cambridge, we aspire to bring people and communities together to ensure a vibrant, just, and equitable city for everyone.

The Foundation was established to enable residents of all means to contribute to the wellbeing of the city and address pressing problems by pooling assets, and it continues to be a vehicle for local, collective giving. We strive to ignite the collective power of our community to address its most pressing problems. Last year, we invested more than $4.4 million through grantmaking and donor-driven investments supporting community-based nonprofits and collaborative initiatives addressing local challenges and opportunities.
