When we think of Starlight Square, we don’t think parking lot. We think ofour backyard, our dining room table, our local stage…but most of all our community.

Starlight Square was an innovative, community-based solution to the pandemic and over five seasons it evolved into an important and beloved civic space.

It’s been a community hub, a magnet for everyone, a place where neighbors from all corners of the city can connect with one another. It became a cornerstone of our city’s cultural district, a place to enjoy the work of artists, musicians, dancers, actors, and small local businesses—the cultural vibrancy we celebrate in Cambridge.

It created opportunity for BIPOC entrepreneurs, who incubated their dreams in small Popportunity stalls, and some moved on to bricks and mortar shops. It was the colorful backdrop for our local farmers market, where residents from all income brackets can purchase fresh produce.

For CCF, it’s been a welcoming space where we celebrated our nonprofit partners, a place where we announced our city’s budding social innovators. It was the stage for our forum on education equity in our schools. It was the anchor of our block party, where residents sat together at a long community table and learned about economic mobility and social cohesion the two pillars of our strategic plan.

We say our city can be a place where social cohesion exists, economic mobility thrives. Starlight Square was an embodiment of that.
