Our community’s concern over the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine drew more than 200 to Harvard Square’s Sanctuary Theatre on March 20 for an evening of stunning performances.
We’re grateful to our partners José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s Dance for World Community, Cambridge Arts, Cambridge Community Television, ArtsBoston, and Harvard Square Business Association, and everyone who contributed pro-bono to this fundraiser—from the local florist, to the backstage crew, to the dozens of Cambridge artists who performed and offered a rainbow of global culture including flamenco, African drum and dance, Indian classical dance, and voices from the St. Andrew’s Ukrainian Orthodox Church Choir. If you missed this spectacular cultural event, catch it on CCTV’s Channel 9 on these dates: April 13, 6:30pm; April 14, 1pm; April 15, 6:30pm; April 16, 12pm; and April 17, 4pm. View full schedule.
“The performing arts community was hard hit by COVID, but in Cambridge that just heightened the sector’s empathy and activism,” said Scott Fraser, José Mateo Ballet Theatre’s managing director.
Thanks to more than 150 local donors, the Cambridge for Ukraine Fund has raised about $21,000 so far—100% of which the Cambridge Community Foundation will send to humanitarian aid efforts for Ukraine.
And, please consider making your donation today! The Fund remains open for a little while longer with the goal of raising $30,000. Donate here.
