In a powerful letter to the community, CCF President Geeta Pradhan calls for urgent, local action in response to devastating federal cuts. Read her message and learn how you can help.

Federal budget cuts are no longer a distant threat; they are now a stark reality.  And they are dismantling our social safety net and threatening to push many Cambridge families, elders, and children into crisis.

For 109 years, the Cambridge Community Foundation has supported our community in good times and bad, whenever and wherever the need arose. We invite you to join us in making a gift to the Urgent Needs Fund—a steadfast resource we created more than a decade ago for times like these. Your gift will assist nonprofits that are a lifeline to our most vulnerable neighbors.

The recently enacted federal budget brings dramatic cuts to food assistance and healthcare, with potential reductions in education funding, rental assistance, and support for the elderly, individuals with disabilities, and mental health services.

In Cambridge, 10,000 residents who rely on SNAP benefits will be impacted by new eligibility requirements. This includes our seniors, families experiencing homelessness, veterans, immigrants, and caregivers of children aged 14 and older. Food pantries are already stretched thin as households struggle to keep pace with rising costs of food, healthcare, childcare, and housing. For immigrant families and marginalized communities, these pressures are compounded by deepening threats to their safety and an eroding sense of belonging and stability.

This is a brewing humanitarian crisis, and it is only going to grow.

Local work is vital. And it begins now. As your community foundation, we understand the power of collective action. We’ve seen it time and time again. When we work together toward solutions we build a more resilient community.

Every dollar matters. If you are able, please consider making a gift of any amount to the Cambridge Community Foundation’s Urgent Needs Fund today. Together, let’s protect the people of the city we love.

Thank you for responding with a generous heart.

Warmly,

Geeta Pradhan
CCF President
